It is important for us to maximise the playing time for students, therefore, after the initial round robin tournament students will be split into two brackets, the top 2 students in each group and or best third place (this depends on the number of groups) will progress to the Trophy Competition, the rest will be placed into the Plate Competition. Due to time constraints the second stage of the competition will follow the single elimination format.

It is important to note that there is NO SEEDING for this competition as it is an invitational tournament and all groups have been drawn at random, the play-offs and quarter final line ups have also been drawn at random using an online randomiser.

NESSIC BADMINTON GUIDELINES
All Badminton World Federation (BWF) rules are in force, unless otherwise stated below.
Age Categories
U19 - The student must not have turned 19 as of September 1st of the relevant school year.
U15 - The student must not have turned 15 as of September 1st of the relevant school year.
Competition Categories
Boys Singles & Girls Singles
There are 65 students competing across 4 categories: U15 boys and girls singles, U19 boys and girls singles.
Participation

Participation fee: 600RMB per student
The participation fee covers cost of referees, meals during the event, cleaning, trophies, T-shirts, and a nurse who will be on hand throughout the event. Transportation and accommodations are additional cost that may differ depending on a participating school’s location.

Schools can submit a roster of no more than six players across both age groups (3 boys and 3 girls).

For this event schools must be represented by at least 1 boy and 1 girl in each category.

Participating Schools must submit their rosters to the host school(s) at least 3 weeks before the tournament start date, you should use the players English name or PinYin if they do not have an English name.

If uptake is low once all participating schools have submitted their initial roster then those participating schools may increase their number of participants in order to ensure the integrity of the tournament.

If a player on the initial roster cannot attend the tournament for any reasons once the roster has been submitted that player is permitted to be replaced. However, the host school(s) must be informed at the earliest possible opportunity. All places submitted on the roster must be filled.

Insurance: all participants, students and adults, must be covered with accident insurance which is normal for all student field trips or excursions. Neither NESSIC nor the host school are liable for any accidents that occur during a sporting event. Coaches/supervisors must be informed of the sending school’s insurance policy and field trip policy before departure to prevent delays should a sporting accident occur.
Tournament Format
The first stage of the tournament will be played as a round robin, students will be divided into groups of 4 or 5 and will play each other once, all students will progress to stage two, however their final standings in the first stage will dictate whether they are placed in the NESSIC Trophy Competition or the NESSIC Plate Competition. In the second stage the format will change to a single elimination match, with winners progessing to the next stage of the competition until we have two students in the final.
In the NESSIC Trophy competition 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded. In the NESSIC Plate competition only 1st place will be awarded.

The Harrow International School and Harrow Li De Haikou (AISL Harrow Haikou) are key projects for the Hainan government.
